Le rôle principal du filet d'obstruction des chars (également connu sous le nom d'armure de grille ou de filet de protection) est de faire exploser à l'avance les roquettes antichars ou les balles de rupture d'armure qui arrivent par interception physique. Le principe est d'utiliser la structure du maillage pour détruire les conditions de formation du jet d'énergie accumulée de l'ogive ou pour désactiver le dispositif de mise à feu avant de toucher l'armure principale, ce qui réduit considérablement l'effet de destruction sur la carrosserie du réservoir.
